Case Study
Project: Money Matters: Session 1
Tools Used in Development: Lectora, PowerPoint, Dzine, Camtasia
Time in Development: approximately 120 hours
Client: The King’s Daughters Ministry
Problem
This five-session financial literacy course was designed to equip women ages 18-30 who have experienced homelessness and trauma with the tools to achieve financial independence. Participants enter the program with varying levels of financial literacy, inconsistent budgeting habits, and limited exposure to structured financial education. The previous Money Matters course lacked a consistent foundational framework that could be implemented by instructors with varied experience levels. A solution was needed that ensured instructional consistency while supporting interactive application.
Solution
A narrative framework was designed to move beyond passive instruction and create emotional and cognitive investment, increasing the likelihood of long-term behavior change. A blended model was implemented:
Session 1 (eLearning via Lectora) delivers foundational principles, introduces a structured budgeting framework (10/10/80), and reinforces key financial terminology. Learners complete a guided workbook aligned with the module. The eLearning component ensures every participant enters live sessions with the same foundational knowledge, improving instructional efficiency and learner readiness.
Sessions 2–5 (Instructor-Led) focus on income identification, expense categorization, goal prioritization, and applied budget building. Facilitators use structured slides, guided discussion, and writing activities to ensure consistent delivery.
Results
Early indicators show:
-
Increased preparedness entering instructor-led sessions
-
Improved accuracy in expense classification
-
Greater learner confidence when discussing financial decisions
-
Preparedness to enter the LIFE course offered by the program
Success metrics include budget completion rates, savings goal creation, and post-session participant and instructor feedback.
