The Challenge

Caffeine can accumulate quickly across everyday foods, beverages, and medications, yet learners may not recognize how individual choices contribute to their total daily intake. The challenge was to make cumulative caffeine consumption visible and meaningful without relying on passive information delivery.

The Solution

I created a scenario-based Storyline interaction in which learners follow Jackie through a typical day and make choices about caffeine-containing products. Each selection updates a running caffeine total, allowing learners to see how seemingly small choices can accumulate over time.

Design

The experience uses progressive disclosure, visual feedback, and learner-controlled exploration to turn an invisible quantity into something learners can monitor and interpret. Rather than presenting caffeine limits as isolated facts, the interaction allows learners to discover patterns through their own decisions.

Product Exploration

Learners select familiar products and investigate how much caffeine each choice contributes.

Live Caffeine Tracking

A running total updates as products are selected, making cumulative intake visible in real time.

Scenario-Based Feedback

Learners apply what they discovered to a realistic decision and receive feedback based on their response.

Assessment & Feedback

The experience concludes with a scenario-based question that asks learners to apply what they have discovered. Feedback changes according to the selected response, reinforcing correct reasoning and addressing common misconceptions rather than simply identifying an answer as right or wrong.
